I had the best Birthday Eve and Birthday ever this year! And today was one of the happiest days of my life! I should be doing the homework I procrastinated till now BUT I just can't stop thinking about how happy I am right now. I'll start with my birthday weekend.
Friday, my birthday eve, I received a text from my roommate Katelyn asking how my day was going and when I was done. We planned to meet once I got out of class and go to the "Crossroads" for dinner. The "Crossroads" is BYU-Idaho's latest and greatest. It is the cafeteria they finished right before the start of the semester and it is better than anything us I students have ever seen! ;) It is actually really nice looking ... food could be better. Anyway, there ended up being four of us roommies meeting up there and we enjoyed a nice dinner. Some boy with a beard came up to us and asked us questions about the University. Having a beard is quite a thing. We all found it attractive, but most people at our school shun it. (They really do give dirty looks if you don't fit in ... quite a shame.) After dinner Quincy, Katelyn, and I drove out to Rabbitsticks. Rabbitsticks is pretty much the coolest thing that Rexburg, Idaho has to offer. It is an annual gathering of all hippies. They all camp out in this potato field for a week and they offer classes to teach each other their skills. You can take basket weaving, arrow head carving, textiles with leather, you can even make your own moccasins! Next year I'm going to go out everyday to take at least one class. :) Friday was the last day of classes and by the time we got out there, they were already cleaning up, but they told us to walk around and check everything out. (Boy, we stuck out like a sore thumb in our brightly colored, manufactured clothing. We started chatting with this old man who was hilarious. He called us babes. Haha! I think it was his selling tactics. Well, it worked...We bought some necklaces he made. We hung out there until the concert started and a little after dark they had a campfire going and a group played some old country tunes. We stayed till the pot came out then headed out. Once back at the apartment I gave everybody henna tattoos. I kind of made it a little too runny so it they don't have a lot of fine details BUT they still look good of course! Around 1:30 AM we headed down to Idaho Falls to do a Denny's run. It's one of those things that you can only do extremely early in the morning so that it taste good and is a lot of fun. I had french toast. :) As we were leaving, my friend Katelyn asked which stuffed animal she should win from one of those claw machines. There was this crazy lemur looking animal with huge green eyes so I told her to get that one. As we looked closer I realized it said something on the stomach and I thought it said Love so I changed my mind and told her to win the rainbow teddy bear. She put in a dollar and went for the teddy bear. The claw grabbed it and drug it halfway across then dropped it. We were bummed for a second then realized that she still had one more shot so she went for it grabbed the teddy bear and snatched the lemur and sent them both down the chute! It was so exciting that we started jumping up and down like little girls right there! They are both sitting arm-in-arm right now on the TV stand as I speak. Smiling, of course. We all sang on the top of our lungs the entire way home.
The next morning (my birthday) I woke up early ... early for going to bed at 4 AM ... and went shopping with Mabecka in Idaho Falls. We both had a couple things we needed so we spent most of the early day down there. Then she took me out to lunch at Olive Garden. She asked them to sing to me and it wouldn't have been so embarrassing except each of the waiters/waitresses were staring me down. I had no idea where to look and it made the entire situation awkward. I wonder if they train them to do that? Hmm ... After lunch we came home. I jammed and did my own thing for a while and then that evening a few friends came over and we played Frisbee with glow sticks. It was an awesome game! And afterwards we had cupcakes! And that was my birthday.
It is really late and I'm not getting my homework done so I'm going to add pictures and write about why today was so great tomorrow. Or the next day. ... don't worry, I will do it. But now I'm going to try and get a little rest so I can wake up early refreshed and pumped to get these homework assignments done.
